Attendance at various leisure activities:

65 percent of women go to the movies, compared to 66 percent of men. (1)

34 percent of women attend sporting events, compared to 49 percent of men. (1)

57 percent of women go to amusement parks, compared to 58 percent of men. (1)

Participation in various leisure activities:

77 percent of women are involved in exercise programs, compared to 75 percent of men. (1)

46 percent of women do charity women, compared to 40 percent of men. (1)

61 percent of women do home improvement and repair, compared to 71 percent of men. (1)

37 percent of women have computer hobbies, compared to 44 percent of men. (1)

11 percent of women attend jazz performances, compared to 13 percent of men. (1)

Purchase of music:

Women were 51.3 percent of music buyers in 1998, compared to 45.6 percent in 1990. (2) 

Involvement in the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts:

More boys were involved with the Boy Scouts in 1998 with 4,756,000 participants than in 1970 when 4,683,000 boys participated. (3)

The number of boys participating in the Boy Scouts has been increasing since 1994. (3)

Less girls were involved with the Girl Scouts in 1998 with 2,708,000 participants than in 1970 when 3,248,000 girls participated. (3)

Involvement of girls in the Girls Scouts severally dropped from 3,248,000 in 1970 to 2,172,000 in 1985. (3)

The number of girls participating in the Girl Scouts has been increasing since 1990. (3)
